I canceled and paid off my bill with Direct Tv after I moved in 2011. I never heard from the company until last week 2, via mail. It was a statement for a bill in collections for over $170. I contacted direct tv. The associate never canceled it, but suspended the service for 6 months. I did not know this. I was beng charged for direct tv service at a location I had not lived at for over two years. I had to call direct tv 4 times in a row because each associate would hang up or disconnect the line. At one point when I was on hold, some female picked up the phone and yelled "what the h& is going on" and slammed down the phone which disconnected me again. I called back and spoke with another lady, who started out real nice, asked about my family and then said that since I never contacted them the charges stand. She argued that "how do they know I didn't hook up my reciever and get satellite somewhere". Implying I was stealing service. So I explained I would never do anything illegal. So she retracted that she implied that. Then she said they sent me all this mail and emails. I said no I never recieved anything since last week and thought someone restarted my service without my permission. She continued to argue rudely with me and point the finger that this was my fault and I was in collections and the charges stand. She implied that I was irresponsible in my dealings with the suspension and the reciever. She said you never contacted us about any of this. I told her, why would I? I paid my bill in full and canceled my service, why would I be waiting for a bill when there should not have been one. Anyway, it got heated and I finally said I am so dissappointed with your company. You charged me for a service you knew was not even hooked up to your equipment or to a tv. I told her it would be like me charging her an enormous amount for fuel and expecting her to pay it even though she did not have a car. I said because how would I know you didn't have a car, heck you could have used your neighbors and bought fuel. I said that is excatly how rude your company is. I told her I used to think there were people who were good in the world, but now I can see how much our world has changed. I also told her that I realize it is not her directly but that the company she works for is dishonest. I said I felt sorry for her having to work for them and I said, all it takes is one customer who has a bad experience and it can ruin a company. I said I had a bad experience and I intend to tell everyone I know to not conduct business with you. Anyway, she says the bill stands and is in collections. So now I don't know what to do. It's a lot of money for me. Unfortunately I was not born independently wealthy.
