I recently booked two airline tickets through Expedia. Within a few days of booking, I had to change the return date. I talked to an Expedia representative about modifying the return date. The representative told me it would cost me over $600 per ticket to cancel and change the reservation. This meant I would incur a cost of $1200 to change the departure date. I considerend the cost to be beyond ridiculous.
The Expedia representative offered no alternatives... Only that if I wanted to change the reservation, I had to pay $600 per ticket. This representative should have told me she could book two one-way return flight tickets (around $200) and cancel the unused portion of the original tickets with the airline. This way, I would not lose the value of them. No, this would have been too much like adding value and providing exceptional customer service.
As result, I had to book my own one-way tickets and I lost the value of unused tickets due to not knowing I needed to contact the airline.
Not only did I lose money dealing with Expedia, I wasted time hearing a Expedia supervisor say, "Yes, the representative should have told you... No, we can't get your money back, but do try us again, because next time you'll probably get a more informed representative". Now, why on earth would I want have faith in Expedia) Expensia) again?
