Giving me the runaround

I booked with cheapoair but did not purchase their travel insurance. I purchased travel insurance through a different site that allows cancel for any reason because you never know what's going to happen. I have done this many times before but had never needed to use the travel insurance.

My boss wouldn't give me the time needed off from work for my flight so I called cheapoair and spoke to their customer service department. When I called I asked for my tickets to be cancelled. The customer service rep offered to put my ticket as "future credit" since they were non-refundable and non-transferable. I told him I didn't want future credit because if I were to get future credit then I would not be able to get my money back through my travel insurance. He said okay and when we were about to hang up I asked to be sent an email to which he agreed.

A week later I don't get an email so I call cheapoair. After being on hold for a half an hour I finally got connected. The rep took down a call back number and right when I started to explain my problem we got disconnected. I waited for that call back to no avail. I tried calling for the next three days all the while being on hold for more than a half hour. I finally sent an email explaining the problem and receive an email back from them stating the first rep gave me future credit.

I sent them a reply explaining the whole situation and how I specifically asked for no future credit. They are still being uncooperative with solving my problem and I basically wasted money on travel insurance seeing as how cheapoair claims I can't use it.
