Turned up in Puntarenas on March 20th late at night, and began looking for a place to stay. All the better places in town were full, but Yadran had space, albeit at a very hefty price.initially turned down the room and carried on looking, but in the end decided just to pay up the cash and make do for a night. The rooms smell of raw sewage and rotting fish on the beach! It was really foul!
Room was reasonably sized, functional and but not clean and was covered in a gray mold, basic - don't expect any particular kind of luxury. The arwa is extreemly hot and the fans do not work very well! AC needed servicing, and the humidity made it hard to catch your breath! The manager Tommy not a Costa Rican, was an asshole that just did not care about his guests, but he seamed more interested in chasing the local whores and tramps in the casino! Not a family friendly hotel! Breakfast was horrible and not fit for human consumption. Each room has a safe - but you have to pay an extra rental charge on the key each day, and put up your credit card as a deposit on the key. Staff was rude, uncaring and just intrested in ways to exact more money from you by not being helpful then charging you for favors! They seemed able to perform well understood procedures, but unable / unwilling to be helpful, use their initiative or do anything out of the ordinary. Go to Jaco avoid this area and town!
The hotel looks rather dated - everything was covered in mold and just seamed like a very unhealthy enviornment, seemed like a moldy throwback to the 1970s. Hotels in San Jose seemed to offer much better value for money.
Summary - Never Again! I had a cough for a week after my stay! It's a low quality over priced tourist rip off hotel with bad mannered people in the most dangerous part of town! If you're desperate for a room look around first! You can do better elsewhere else!
