I took an international flight from India to San Francisco, and the Hong Kong to SFO was covered by United. Both my checked-in bags were missing at the SFO airport, so I filed a delayed baggage claim. When I called to check the status, they said the report was not filed correctly, so they took my details on the phone again. I got my bags the next day evening. One of my bags was severely damaged with the side base portion completely broken, rendering the bag unusable. When I took it to the SFO airport the very next day (since it has to be done within 24 hrs of collecting the baggage), they said they don't cover these type of damages, unless the bag is completely ripped off, n contents revealed. Wow! What is the purpose of saying we will cover damaged bags then? My new suitcase (used only twice) is now rendered useless, and I have to spend about $200 in buying a new one, but United will not cover any of it! All they can give me is a $50 travel voucher valid for 1 yr, when I don't even know if I will be flying with them again. What is the purpose of the voucher, when I actually have to spend money on a new bag? Tell me about customer service with United! I am deeply disappointed. Moreover, they are one of the few airlines that charge $50.00 for a second checked-in bag on an international flight, when most airlines offer both bags free. You pay this money only to lose your whole bag!!
