If you think you have a payless car reservation in newark nj, you probably don't!
I called Expedia to make changes to my confirmed car rental reservation. The first time I called was to change the drop off location, but was told that Expedia could not change the reservation if the drop off was different from the pick up location. Okay, fine. Then I called again to discuss dropping the car off early and getting a refund. No, they said, Expedia could not confirm a refund for early drop off, that I would need to call the rental company. So I called the rental company (Payless). The number was disconnected. I called the Payless home office and they said that they have closed all locations in that area (Newark, NJ) and that they sent a memo to Expedia about the closing.
I assumed I had car rental reservations for our vacation and would not have known until I arrived at the airport. Shame on Expedia for not notifying its customers! Even after calling twice, I still was not aware of this important information!
I believe there is a huge communication problem at Expedia. Every agent I spoke with, including a manager (only identified as Oscar AA2) had a heavy accent and was difficult to understand. Perhaps they were not able to read the Payless memo. Oscar did say he would talk to the agents about this problem.
I know I am not the only person who thought they were holding a Payless car rental reservation in Newark, NJ. I can only hope that Expedia will get on the ball and inform all those customers holding a defunct reservation.
