Beware of this VRBO listing: http://www.vrbo.com/141694. The landlord was very difficult to work with. His entire vrbo listing was full of grammatical errors that makes interpreting difficult.
We rented his Lake Austin waterfront vacation home from 21 - 26 May (Memorial Day weekend). His website says 5th night free... He did not honor that due to it being a holiday weekend (that's not spelled out on his website). We pre-arranged an early check in for the first day. However, after arriving in Austin with boat and kids in tow, he would not answer his phone or respond to text messages.
After checking in, found the house to smell of dirty diapers and mildew. To his credit the home was clean, but the pictures on his listing do not resemble the real thing. We were also told the boat lift was unusuable, a fact we would have liked to have known much prior.
The home was more like a double wide trailer with a lot of electrical problems. Lights that didn't work, TV worked occasionally, non-existent WiFi. Ants got into everything after the first day. Gas grill did not work.
The boat house was down a unpaved and dangerous rocky slope. Most of the bulbs on the boat house did not work. Speaking of bulbs, he charged me for a boat house light bulb ($150!) that he said we broke (we did not) and sent me $340 of my $500 deposit back (do the math). A deposit that took numerous phone calls and 7 emails to get him to respond. Took him over 30 days to do it (his contract stated within 30).
All in all, a very ignorant and unpleasant man to work with. His broken English (both written and oral) is very difficult to understand and I wouldn't be surprised if that was a guise.
Small Claims Court date pending.
