I had fallen unexpectedly ill on 11/12/08 and had to go to the emergency room, where I had been given a large dose of antibiotics. I was unable to go to work, and there was no way I could fly that Friday as previously planned. Furthermore, I had documentation from the emergency room that I needed to stay home and rest. When I called to the reservation line, they refused to waive the $150 change fee despite the fact that I offered to provide documentation. They said there was no medical exception, even though there was no way I could have reasonably expected the illness to happen when I booked the ticket. It was impossible for me to fly, and I do not feel the policy applies to me because there was no reasonable way for me to know that I would get very sick before my flight.
