Airfare and hotel booked at the same time for a convention. Times for flight were too late on outward journey so called and tried to get them changed because they were getting me in there at one minute to midnight on the first day (if the flight was indeed on time). Was told that I would be unable to change the time and asked to speak to a supervisor. Told that the supervisor was not available but that they would contact me the next day.
This never did happen; consequently I had to book another flight to get me there on time for the convention. Now comes the bad part. I called the airport to make sure that the flight was still in operation (flight threatened by strikes of United airways employees). Was told everything was fine. Went to check in after paying extra for the hotel room to stay until 6pm, another late flight.
Tried to check in and discovered that my return flight was cancelled because I did not take the flight on the way out and therefore my contract was void. I was offered seats on the same flight (they still had my reserved seats empty) at the cost of $955.78, more than $200 extra for the original return tickets and 3 days in Harrahs hotel in las vegas.
Needless to say I will not be using hotwire again but would at least like all and sundry to know that hotwire and united airways are not good value for money.
