Charged us a 20% commission on hotel booking

Several months ago, my wife and I booked a hotel in Portsmouth, NH via Travelocity. The price was $183.72. Given the time of year and the location, that price, though a bit high, made sense to us.

The morning we left the hotel (which was late July), the hotel also printed us a bill for $156.16 as our receipt. The difference was $27.56, or a surcharge by Travelocity of over 17.6%.

After returning from our vacation, we called Travelocity to ask what the difference was for. The rep quickly said, without any information to back up his statement, that we had "incidental fees" added to our hotel bill, assuming that the hotel bill was larger than the Travelocity price had been.

We had no incidental fees, and we shared that fact with the person.

The Travelocity "service" person then said that we must have been upcharged by the hotel, again positioning himself with the assumption that the hotel bill was larger than the Travelocity price had been.

We told Travelocity that our hotel had provided us with a receipt that was nearly 20% less than we paid Travelocity for our room. Travelocity refused to refund us a dime. We will address this instead through our credit card company.

What a screw job from Travelocity. I will never use them for hotel or flight, or rental, ever again. From now on, if at all, I'll use them only to learn airfares, then I'll go directly to the airline website and book online there, screwing Travelocity out of the surcharge they put on flights.
