I was using an internet translation service when a Pop-up appeared telling me that I was "today's winner of a Florida vacation for $1200". I phoned the toll free number and spoke with John Wells, a fast talking salesman who said the "deal" here is that: "We offer you 4 days and 3 nights in Orlando, plus a cruise to the Bahamas, free passes to Disneyworld and Magic Kingdom... All YOU have to do is agree to visit our time-share condos during a scheduled tour."
According to John, one person in ten who is taken on this tour will purchase a time share condo in Florida... Hence the motivation for the promotion. I kept thinking and saying: "I've never won anything before!" The level of detail on the resorts, recreation, award-winning hotels, etc. Was stunning. All I had to do was get myself from Newfoundland to Orlando... AND pay $500 for me and my partner, to secure our reservation, which was good for 18-months.
After wasting a half and hour of my time describing wonders I can only imagine, John wanted my Visa Card number. I explained that I do not give my card number over the phone. Secondly, I want to receive all the information of this offer through the post, in writing. Thirdly, I could not make a snap decision immediately, without consulting my partner first.
Immediately, a woman came on the line and offered to connect me with Summer Bay Resorts legal department so that I would have the reassurance I need to make a decision immediately. The more I was pressured to give out my VISA number, the more suspicious I became. I stuck to my guns, and I'm glad I did not give Summer Bay Resorts my Visa Card number because I've just read on "complaint" that a Nova Scotian was tricked the same way and now cannot get his money back.
I checked out the company owner - Joe H. Scott, Sr. - and found 2 references: one stating that he was a vacation 'developer', the other stating that he manufactures doors. As the old adage goes: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is fraud." Cathy who was almost "ripped off"!!!
