We were terrifed at 3 A.M. When someone attempted to enter our room using a duplicate key card or master key card. We had the security bar on so they could only open the door a few inches. My husband jumped up to see what was going on. Three men, obviously drunk, had the wrong room. They staggered into the rooms on either side of us (we were in room 220- they had room 219 and 221.
As it was 3A.M., we only wanted to get back to sleep.in the morning, at checkout, we told the woman at the front desk (when I asked if she was the manager, she replied "sort of") about our terrifying experience, she told us we were wrong. She also said we should have called her at 3 am so she could have done something about it! (done what???) She said our door could not have been closed as there were no other keys made and no one would have been able to get in. When we repeated outselves that our door was definitely closed, she called the man (they were hotel employees we were told) in room 219 and asked him if he had tried to use a key in room 220. He said yes and wanted to apologize to us on the phone at the front desk. My husband was too angry to talk to him. We were continually told by the front desk that we were wrong, that it was our fault that the door was opened.
We wrote a letter of complaint to Choice Hotels (they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee)-they said they couldn't do anything because each hotel is a franchise. This one was owned, we found out, by a M. Patel (the same name as on another Quality Inn complaint).
We received a letter from M. Patel, claiming we lied about the whole thing.
Don't use this hotel unless you have the security bar on your door and the chair under the door handle. You may get intruders as they obviously pass around a master key.
