Several years ago, my daughter and I drove up from Texas for a nice long weekend, with a room at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, my first time to stay there, and needless to as my last. When we checked in we were met with not so very friendly staff. Ok, I let that slide, on our way down the hall to our room we noticed a very foul odor, we could tell that is was something dead. I Opened the door to our room and the odor hit us full force, I called the front desk and told them that we couldn't stay in that room because of the odor, we were told that there wasn't another room ready but they would have one later, that we could leave our things in the room and check back later.
OK, I am trying to work with these people, right. So, we go eat and go to the casino and do our running around. Got back to the hotel late that night, check in with front desk about our room, was told they had taken care of the problem, (dead cat under our room) so back to the room we go, we could smell the air fresher all the way down the hall, open the door to our room, now not only do we have the dead cat odor to contend with, but mix that with the odor of some sweet air freshener, well by this time I am ready to do bodily harm, so back to the front desk we go, to deal with the same friendly (not so friendlt) staff.
I guess at this point I should say that I am a red head. After a long and unpleasant talk they found a room for us at the other end of the hotel, but they refused to help move our luggage or offer any type of an apology. At this time I would love to tell them to kiss my elbow, but there isn't a room to be had in Ruidoso. I have traveled all over the world and all over the US, and never have I been treated as badly as The Inn of The Mountain God treated us that night. PS, I checked out the next morning and returned to Texas.
