Just as almost every person's complaint started, my husband and I went to what was supposed to be a 90 minute presentation. We ended up there for 5 hours... With two children under 3!
They made their pitch, told us it would cost $500 a month plus $500 a year for maintenance. We said no way.
They brought in the 'supervisor' which had a 'deal' for us. A timeshare in another resort that someone had 'already paid half of'. They would sell it to us. The deal was 'the kind that doesn't come around very often'. I was all for it. My husband said no because of the downpayment of $700. He's extremely smart!
They brought in the 'closer'. She offered us a vacation package that we could transfer payments to the purchase of a timeshare if we decided later on. That would hold the unit for us. We finally said, ok. So we purchased a vacation package instead of the timeshare. Gave the credit card, yada yada.
Five hours later, we got in our car and drove home. Got on the computer at home and read about all these horror stories! We should've done our research before we went there.
Friday we signed the papers. Monday, I wrote a letter to cancel the agreement and sent it Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested.
A few weeks later, we got a letter that they had cancelled the agreement.
If you have buyer's remorse and want to get out of the contract. Read it! It gives you an out. But you have to do it within a certain amount of time. These people keep you there forever to break you down. My kids were screaming after 5 hours. I was willing to give them my house if they would just let me go. They have HIGH pressure sales tactics and the government knows it, that's why they give you time to get out of the contract. Whether it's a vacation package or a timeshare, you can canel if you do it in time. You must send your cancelation certified mail return reciept requested.
