Lakeside Inn
Lake, Mt. Dora Romatic rip-off weekend

This is a copy of the letter I sent to managment... With no reply

I just though I would let you know about our experience with the our romantic Getaway weekend that we just completed on Sunday, March 27

We were very displeased with the whole deal. First let me give you a little background of my hotel experience. I have traveled many places here and in South America, and have stayed in everything from Motel 6 to the most elaborate resorts. So the point is I have been around.

1.initially I made a reservation for the weekend of March 25 and 26 in January. Mark handled the reservation and provided me with a reservation number. On Monday before our reservation, I called to reconfirm it. The lady who answered the phone said there was no record of my name or reservation number in the system. I asked for Mark and he got on the phone and booked me a new reservation with a new number. My wife stressed out since we have been looking so forward this weekend. Our 4th wedding anniversary.

2. On the way to Mt. Dora on Friday, March 25, we got stuck in heavy traffic on 441 in the Villages area, so I called mark on my cell phone and asked if he could pick out a really nice room with a good view for us. He said he would. We arrived there about 3:40pm and proceeded to check in. We decided to upgrade to the Romantic Getaway package upon check-in Mark raved about how nice a room he picked for us and the check in went real smoothly. He assigned us to the last building looking out from the main building to the left, which was on the lakeside of the access road. I do not remember the building, but it was later referred to the building that allows Dogs. We proceeded to enter the building and the first thing we heard was a loud yipping small dog that someone had apparently left in the room alone, The piercing sounds of this animal spread all the way up to the 3rd floor where we were assigned. We looked at the rooms and out the window (I hate to say this the view really sucked and was not anything we had expected, plus there was a pet odor throughout the building.

3. We went back to Mark and told him that the room was not acceptable due to the noise and odor. He told us that he would give us another room but needed $25/night more. Even suggesting that we pay more was very offensive and we told him No, we want to speak to the manager. He left the desk and came back and said he would not charge us the extra $25, but that we would have to stay in the main building. We agreed and proceeded to our new room assignment.

4. We unpacked and our Champaign, cheese and cracker tray was delivered as agreed. We actually enjoyed this and it was the highlight of our service.

5. The room: the bed was horrible for the price we were paying. This bed reminded me of some of the beds I slept in Bolivia where the cost per night was $5-10 per person. If we were not committed to the two-night package we probably would have checked out the next morning, because both our backs were really painful the next morning.

6. The Bathroom. The $5.95 shower fixture was missing part of the nozzle making a steady stream of water come of the shower instead of the normal shower. The toilet did not flush unless you held the flush knob down for the entire flushing cycle; the hand lotion bottle had been opened already and was half used. This not what you expect when you are paying this kind of money

7. The view was a lot better than the first room assignment, but it would have been better without seeing old rags and paint cans outside two separate window views. It seems like the staff really do not take pride in keeping the place looking nice.

8. On Saturday morning, room service made the bed and replaced the towels, but there was no replacement of amenities (lotions, soaps etc) like you get in any hotel where you pay $50 or more a night.

9. The snack tray from Friday night was moved onto the floor just outside our room on Saturday morning and it was still there when we left on Sunday morning.

10. Breakfast on Saturday morning: We went into the dining room and we were fussed at for not seeing the hostess. There was no hostess the hostess station and it took them about 2-3 minutes to find one. Service and the quality of food was great.

11. Romantic getaway dinner: On Saturday night again there was no hostess. It took a fem minutes to locate one. There were a few tables by the window and we requested one. We were told that they were busy with a anniversary party and that she could not give us one at the window. But did give us a table with a satisfactory view one away from the window. There were two servers and a party of about 12 plus two other tables with parties of 4 when we were seated. Only one other table of 4 was seated during the entire time we were there and one along the window finished and left. The new party of 4 was seated against the wall and not by the windows. When we left most of the tables along the window were free, so we could have sat there. Our waitress did the best job she could and I will not complain against here. The qualify of the food was not all that great and we felt that we were short changed on the whole romantic meal situation. We ate at the Pieces Rising the night before where the service, the atmosphere, and the food were excellent.

12. For breakfast on Sunday we were looking forward to the same quality of food we had the morning before. Again no hostess, we were the only ones in there and the host led us to the table. I sat my wife and walked around to the chair that the host apparently wanted me to sit in. Just as I was about to grab the chair to sit, I noticed something slimy on top of the chair. This turned out to be a about an inch ling lugi snoth or a wet booger whatever you want to call it. This was gross. My wife took the napkin and wiped it into it. I later pointed it out to the lady who appeared to be in charge. All she did was take the napkin and rapidly walked toward to kitchen area. There was no apology or anything. We were supposed to have a regular breakfast from the menu, but were told we had to eat from the pre-pared buffet (hard eggs, soggy potatoes etc). Waffle house has better food than that.

13. Then there is the time I spent writing this

This experience was deplorable. It seems like you all are cutting corners and just existing, with no profits being put back into the facility. You would expect a lot more for the money we spent to stay at your establishment.

I expect some sort of reply.

Several phone call attemps were made with no returned calls.
