In searching for flights to Germany, I could have purchased less expensive tickets with United or any of a number of airlines. I chose Lufthansa because I have always had great customer service with them. I paid a higher price for Lufthansa. My confirmations said lufthansa. I get to the airport and I am directed to United airline's ticket counter. Seems my Lufthansa reservation was actually for United... Even though I paid the Lufthansa price! I called Orbitz customer service and a supervisor said I could change the flight by going to Lufthansa's ticket counter and changing it to Lufthansa... For an additional fee. Well, sorry... I already PAID good money for Lufthansa.
As it turns out, there is very light grey type on the reservation that mentions the flight number (Lufthansa's number) is operated by United airlines. Everywhere else on the confirmation in bold black type is the name Lufthansa.
Lesson learned: If I want Lufthansa, I will buy directly FROM Lufthansa. Forget Orbutz!
