I have booked a hotel on 12/13 for 12/26-12/28 in hotels.com and I saw their 'Price Guarentee' banner. I thought this is good. On 12/17, I found out that the same stay of the same room at the same hotel on hotels.com reduced the price. And also I found the same lower price on expedia.com for the same room of the same hotel of the same stay. I called hotels.com and ask them for the 'Price Guarentee' and the rep refused and I talked to the manager she refused the request too. The reason they give is that my reservation is non-cancellable. Actually, my reservation was labelled as non-refundable.
That is why I say their so-called 'price match guarantee' is deceiving. If the reservation is cancellable, you don't need the 'price match guarantee'. If you find a lower price, you just go ahead cancel the reservation. If the reservation is non-cancellable, hotels.com does not honor the 'price match guarantee'. So, 'price match guarantee' is no use and deceiving.
I have to call my credit card comany to deal with them.
Beware, don't fall in their 'price match guarantee' trap.
