Company employee involved in theft from two customers and company denies fault

There has been a situation at the Rockville Signature Club. On 3/13/10 Sunday evening approximately around 7:30 PM, two cellular phones iPhone 4 16 Gb worth $700 each were stolen from the basketball court from non-members of the gym. The two members who had their cell phone stolen were Xin (Tom) Wang, my husband, and Shawn Isinhue, a separate member of the gym we did not know prior to the incident. The two members were playing basketball in the court in the evening. Four young black men came into the gym who were friends with the front desk employee named Raza. These four young men did not have memberships. We understand that we are responsible for our items, and had our items been stolen from members that would have been a different story. However, if an employee lets his friends into the gym without any membership or signing any guest log and those people steal our belongings than you as a business facility are responsible. You are responsible for controlling who enters and leaves the gym. We pay money every month to go to a protected and safe environment and we expect the employees there to not be involved in these crimes. Shawn SAW the young man leave with the two cells phone and ran to stop him. The employee Raza who is friends with the suspects tried to calm Shawn and Tom down. Shawn works for AT&T and assured everyone he would eventually track the phones and find out where they are. The employee Raza immediately got defensive and asked several questions on how we would actually track the phone whether it be by turning on the phone. Tracking the sim card. Etc. We find it very suspicious that the employee Raza brought these thieves into the gym and would not help us file a report. He kept questioning us on how we would actually track the phone.
Again, we are VERY upset at this situation because as paying customers we expect to attend a gym where the management actually MANAGES their employees and trains them to do their job. Furthermore, instead of employees actually watching the front desk, four employees were actually PLAYING basketball on the court instead of doing their job. They were not even on break they were AT work and using the facility while they were supposed to be working. We have the names of the three young men who remained in the court after the last friend ran off with the phones. None of these four men are members. We have filed a policed report and and filed a report at the La fitness. Brian the assistant manager was helpful to us in giving your contact information and filing the report for us since Raza would not file it. Also, Raza along with the three remaining men refused to give us the name of the fourth friend who ran off with the cell phones.
We find this UNACCEPTABLE and SHAMEFUL that an employee who is friends with the thief would not give the name of the thief. Raza was hugging and jumping on and talking to the thief just thirty minutes earlier and as soon as the phones were stolen he would not give us the name. We are VERY ANGRY at this situation. We are angry that the employees at the club could have prevented this if they had been actually SCANNING people in and checking whether these guests were even allowed in. We have noticed SEVERAL occurrences of the employees NOT watching the front desk and watching people scan in. We have come to the gym several days ourselves and signed in and WATCH other people walk right into the gym and the employees are on their computers not paying attention. We are ANGRY that an employee of the club is associated with THESE THIEVES and actually brought them in. We are ANGRY that this employee defended the thieves and tried to deflect us from reporting the incident. This situation IS UNACCEPTABLE
