LVAC Las Vegas Gym ripoff incompetent overcharges lousy customer service changes policies unexpectedly

Before I left Vegas, I joined a gym (Las Vegas Athletic Club) for $21/mo. It was a 2-yr membership. Well, since I moved and can't use them I had to cancel. There's a $50 fee to cancel. I told them that was b.S. Since I can't use something that is not available to me!

Right after I moved in the middle of August, I called to tell them I'd moved and needed to cancel. I faxed a copy of my driver's license (and was told by phone "a bill with your address on it"). The only bill I had was my car insurance - since you don't get all of your mail right away when you move.

In the meantime, I assumed they were going to charge me the $50 cancellation fee to my credit card (and they never bothered to tell me otherwise when I spoke to them).instead, they billed me for another month of membership - 3 weeks later!

I called them again - each time long distance - to explain the situation and they told me my d.L. Wasn't good enough, that it had to have been issued w/in the last 3 months. I was like wtf? It was issued in February, I moved back to the same address I originated from. So I faxed them another document w / my address on it - I'd switched to Geico and it was a recent address.

I called them again to make sure they got everything, they said they did, but needed the $50 fee, I said just put it on my cc - I was not about to write a check and have them claim they didn't get it in time since they'd done nothing but di* me around. The guy on the phone apologized for the previous person that obviously did not do her job.in the meantime, I called and left a message for a supervisor explaining the situation and saying I wanted the month of September credited to my account. She never returned my call.

I just checked my cc balance today - was charged the $50 cancellation fee, but not credited for my September membership - which put me just over my credit limit and I was charged $29 by my cc company for that one.

So I called LVAC back today and was told that my car insurance faxes were not good enough, even though my previous call to them said it was. I was also told that they cannot accept permission by phone to charge to my credit card - that it had to be written! This was a supervisor telling me this!

I said, well, you accepted my insurance forms AND my cc by phone - you people don't know what you're doing. I want my $21 back! He said we can't do that because you didn't pay the $50 cancellation fee before the first of the month. He was using stalling tacticts and was not budging or apologizing for their incompetence.

I told him if you had notified me in a timely manner (3 weeks is NOT timely!) blah blah blah. He said it's the CUSTOMER'S responsibility to notify them to see if they got everything. So now it's the customer's responsibility to do their job? I told him "whatever! Fu* off!" and hung up. I'm now going to write to the main president/owner/whatever in the corporate office and tell him what incompetent jerks they are.

I am so angry that they can get away with jerking people around like that and charging them for it. It ended up costing me $100 for something I was never able to use. I am a single mother who just got hit by a hurricane, so $100 is a lot of money to us right now. LVAC should be ashamed of themselves!
