I was hired on at Macy's for Christmas help and ended up being offered a on going position there. I was most excited during training and was told about all of the great opportunities Macy's has to offer its employees. I soon realized that what they show in training videos, is not actually occurs during your employment. Overall I enjoyed working for the company, dispite the arrogance of the managers and lack of concern for the employees. I thought why do alot of these employees not care about thier job. I soon realized that it was not the employees fault, but they were now a product of the way management treated them. A Happy and smiling employee is the product of good management. A bored and lazy employee just milking the clock is product of lazy and uncaring managers. Macy's is in my opinion a great company that is delcining as a result of lazy managment and the arogance of managers.
My final straw, we were asked to work inventory from 5pm to 1 am. We were told we would be provided a lunch. I thought what a nice gesture. We worked from 5pm until 11pm and when we went down for lunch we were provided Hostess Blueberry Muffins from the vending machine, bearclaws also out of the vending machine and a bottle of water. We were not allowed to leave the store. We were dissappointed, but ok with that knowing we would be off at 1 am. 1 am came and went and 3 am rolled around. Employees were walking around unproductive and unsupervised. We went to the manager and were allowed to go home. This being one of many similar experiences, I decided to end my employment at Macy's and called to discuss with a store manager. I asked for a few miniutes of his time, of which he said he had. I explained my reasons for leaving and he replied, I do not have time for you and hung up the phone. I called back and talked the the main store manager and he replied Have a nice life and hung up the phone.
Macy's upfront talks about open door policy's and a fun atmosphere. But does not practice what it promises. I would not reccomend Macy's as a positive place to work.
