I received a bill for over five hundred fifty dollars in the mail. I was in shock. I called 900 Direct's customer service number. They guaranteed that the calls (to adult chat) originated from my phone number and threatened to turn the case over to a collection agency if I did not pay right away. Later they sent a switchboard statement as proof. I filed a police report. The police sergeant faxed a request for the voice verification tape, which they have not sent. If the calls were made from my house it was because someone broke in. I was afraid somebody had gotten into my den while I was alseep.
Even after taking the above steps, 900 Direct refuses to drop the financial charges. I am beginning to suspect that no one broke into my house at all and that the phone calls were never really made after reading this website. I live in a small town. It was humiliating to have to report this to the police in a small city where everybody knows each other.
Has anyone ever really been sued by this company?
I don't plan to pay. They will have to garnish my wages. I absolutely did not make or authorize the calls and will fight this to the bitter end. At this point, even though 550 dollars is a lot of money, it's more about the principle involved than the cash.
