I am a 64 year old woman who became a member at Massage Envy, Sherman Oaks, CA. I was never told I cannot cancel my membership. After the second massage I started feeling pain in my jaw and a tooth got a bit soft as I was face down and pressure on my head downwards was extreme. I yelled and told the massage lady to stop. Then I felt better later but my tooth is still a bit soft.
I also developed some back pain and my doctor told me not to do the massage. Then I called and asked to cancel my membership and I was told NO. I asked for the manager to call me. That was over a month ago and until today she never called. Finally I kept calling yesterday many times and the manager by the name of Kailani, pretended on the phone that she is not there when she heard my voice.
I sent her several emails but so far no answers. I called their main office in Westlake Village, CA, still no response. I was promised by the receptionist that the manager will call me tomorrow, which was today. Again, no calls. I told them that my dentist sent them a note that a massage for me is not advisable. I have no wish to sue them or anything; all I want is to cancel my membership because of my fragile back and jaw pain.
I have been totally ignored. No calls and no responses to my emails or to the fax that my doctor sent. I want to go to my internist who is supervising my back problem and get a note from him, but my doctor does not do that for free!!! I asked them to reimburse me for the doctor's note if they need a second doctor's note. Still NO response...
Even phone companies must cancel the contract and give you a small penalty, if you wish. But Massage Envy refuses to abide by basic decency.in the mean time my bank account is being deducted for massages that I am not getting because of my condition... I have never seen anything like that...
