I was on vacation in a small town in Idaho. I had forgotten to buy a long-distance card before I left and needed to make some calls. I decided to put them on my debit cards (2 different ones). I checked for rates on one of the calls and was told it would cost around $3, plus a small connection fee. I made several very short phone calls to people at home about my animals, my air conditioner, etc. There were probably 7-8 of these calls. No more. No more than 3 minutes each. The next day I discovered that two phone companies, who later were identified by my debit card as Tel CL and Opticom, were charging me between $28 and $80 PER 3 minute phone call—the totals were somewhere around $400, and they are still not finished zapping me. I am home now; I have had to close down my checking account and these companies are still trying to withdraw money from my other debit card account. These guys are BAD CROOKS!
