I typed into Google search how to retrieve a birth certificate online, and they were the first company to pop up. They advertised $18.00 birth certificates. I filled out the form, all of my personal information, social, credit card information, etc. I authorized a charge of $18.00 to my account. The system sent me a receipt stating it will take about 2 business days to process my order, and I should hear from them. The third day, I had not heard anything, so i phoned them.
The receptionist looked up my account, placed me on hold, and when she came back on the line she stated they were in the middle of processing my order, and I would receive an email shortly. I received an email within 5 minutes requesting I OVERNIGHT a copy of my ID to them, with $22.00 more dollars. I emailed them back and asked why the need for me to pay again, and if it was alright if I scanned my ID and sent back in a PDF file. They never responded.
This was a Friday. I leave work, not to return until Monday, and notice a charge on my account on Saturday for $77.00 from USbirthcertificate.com. I call them, and as I expected, they are closed. Funny how they are closed on Saturdays, but can charge your account for $77.00, which was not authorized! I wait patiently until Monday, call their offices, their administrator answers and I explain my situation to her. She states that Kentucky certificates are $18.00, and Texas is $77.00.
I told her that NO WHERE did this information show, and that it seemed pretty shady. I asked her if she could cancel my order and refund my money. She said, sure, and HUNG UP ON ME! I called her back immediately after, no answer. I called once I got into the office, no answer. I left a message stating I was hung up on, and I needed to make sure my order had been canceled. It was not until 4:50PM that I received an email stating they could not cancel my order, and someone needed to be home to sign for the birth certificate. What?
I am sorry, you sent me an email on FRIDAY saying you could not process my order because you needed a copy of my ID and $22.00 more dollars. NOW you have processed my order and cannot refund it. So that is when I proceeded to email them back explaining all of the above and CC'ing a name @usacomplaints.com Within 5 minutes of this, they sent me a confirmation stating they cancelled my order. As soon as they saw usacomplaints.com they freaked. Let's see if I actually get a refund. This company is a SCAM!!!
