Angie's List is not at all what they advertise to be. They expect consumers to pay up to $165.00 to write a review about a business or service that can use their site for free to advertise their business. They claim that they are "legitimate" because they can verify the information a consumer lists (name, phone, email) which then makes the review legitimate, but in actuality this does nothing to legitimize the business being reviewed. They then go on to state that sites like Service Magic or complaint cannot be trusted.
If logic prevails, why would a consumer spend money to praise a business? What prevents a business from paying a consumer to do so? One would only use their site to post a negative review, but that costs money, which they state "prevents a business competitor" from posting negative remarks. How? It doesn't, so they are simply profiting from consumers but providing nothing different than a consumer can access for free, from the sites mentioned above, or the Better Business Bureau, County court records, or many other free sources.
