I noticed a charge on my online bank statement on 5/18/04 in the amount of $79.95. I called the 800 number on the statement and spoke to a woman at CIC. This was not the first time that I have contacted these people.
On 4/8/04 I applied for a mortgage through lendingtree.com. Along with my online application, I signed up for a free credit report that I could access instantly online.
Lo and behold, once they had my debit card number, the following screen told me that I would have to wait 7-10 business days to receive a PIN by mail that would allow me to access my report.
20 days came and went, and I never recieved a letter. I contacted CIC to cancel my request and make sure that my card would not be charged. The woman that I spoke to could not be understood, as she spoke very poor English. She assured me that my account would not be charged, and that my account with CIC was now inactive. This was on 4/28/04.
My card was charged, and I called them to have it refunded. This time, I got another woman with poor English, and she told me that it would take 7-10 business days (again) to have the refund in my bank account.
However, this $79.95 charge has caused some items to overdraft my bank account. I was told by CIC that they were in no way, shape or form responsible for paying these charges. I found out yesterday that my sister-in-law also had her account fradulently charged by this same company just yesterday!
How are these people still in business???
