Home Depot has sold millions of Ridgid cordless tools. The tools are great, but the battery technology is poor at best. I own almost every 18-volt cordless tool made by Ridgid, and I have 5 batteries, all for the X2 or X3 tool sets. The total number of batteries is five 18-volt batteries. I have gotten 3 years of good battery life, and then the batteries simply quit working, can't be rebuilt, and stop taking a charge. I have Dewalt batteries that are 7 to 8 years old, and all of them are still working. When you go in to Home Depot, they act as if it is normal for Ridgid cordless tool batteries to fail, and you should simply buy another X2 or X3 battery.
The warranty that Ridgid posts and brags about is limited, and the key word is "limited." Home Depot should credit anyone with a defective battery or batteries at least half of the cost of new batteries. Instead, they work around a 3-year or limited lifetime warranty, if you posted online. So receipt or tool ownership is not worth keeping a faithful Ridgid owner or upgrading a tool purchase in the future. They basically slap every Ridgid owner in the face with the lack of customer support and by not standing behind a poorly designed battery technology. The main reason people buy Ridgid is not just the cost; it is the name brand of heavy-duty, strong tools known throughout the years.
This battery problem is not only frustrating; it is not handled well for faithful Ridgid owners. I have read the new warranties for the X4 lithium-ion battery. The same is true: sign up online, but don't use the tools in construction or normal use. The warranty is void, basically for just using the tools in a manner that does not conform to the guidelines expressed in the warranty. All of this is based on the opinion of Ridgid, who is not really standing behind the tools or the batteries. Many non-profit and for-profit consumer web pages say the new X4 technology batteries are the best now, yet all the customers who bought years ago get thrown away: sorry about your luck, Ridgid owners, buy the new technology regardless of cost or how many sets or tools you own.
