I was looking for rental properties on Craig's List in or near Chicago and came across this ad for rent to own homes. I called the number listed in the ad and was told that I would need to pay a fee of $19.95 to become a member to search listed homes. I was also told that I would also be taken to a website that offers FREE credit reports. I was advised to get my FREE credit reports before renting so landlords wouldn't charge me to do a credit check on me. I was directed to the website for the "Free" credit reports and when I declined paying the additional $19.95 for "Membership" in that site, I could go no further in my search for rental properties. I called Homestarsearch twice that same day to complain about thast site and cancel my "membership" and was hung up on both times. I called again 4 days later to cancel and found out that the $19.95 fee was debited from my account and was told that it was a "non-refundable" one-time fee. THe customer service person I spoke to at my bank assured me that it was NOT a "one-time" fee and that amouint or greater would be deducted from my account every month, on my debit card and he advised me to close the current card and get another one. I am going to the bank now to do just that. "Free", my Father's moustache!
