After seeing multiple ads in the news paper for rentals by Rent Source and also finding them online, I contacted them to see about looking at a property listed on the Internet. When I spoke to the sales representative, I was told that this property was a condo. I told the rep that I was only interested in renting a house and it had to be in a certain area with certain criteria. I was asked what my criteria was and I told him all of the specifics. He then proceeded to tell me that they handled 1,000s of properties and he knew that he had a multitude of properties matching my criteria and was sure that he could save me a lot of money because they had so many properties falling in a lower rental category than I had stated. Because of his claims, I went to the office and paid the $85 fee required for their services. While I was waiting, I overheard a conversation he had with someone else that had called in and he told them that the great thing about their service was that they didn't have to worry about credit reports or paying any fees to a real estate agent. This was good since if you were declined, you would have to pay the fees again for the next rental you were interested in. With their company, you only paid the one-time fee and nothing more. I found this interesting at the time. After I signed the contract and credit card slip, he logged into my account and ran a listing supposedly based on my criteria. He came up with 61 listings. I took the listings and came back to work and looked at the list once I returned. What I found was the criteria he set up was contrary to what I had told him and once I corrected the criteria, only 4 houses came up on the search and 3 were out of the area I was looking for plus they were rent-to-own vs. Lease as I had requested. I called the office and told them I wanted a refund and I was told that they didn't give refunds and if I had read the contract that I signed I would know that. The service was accepted through the false claims that the salesman gave and only by those claims. The contract also states that once you log on, money will not be refunded. The salesman logged on first, not me. Their phone was ringing non-stop with others looking for help like I was. This firm is ripping people off and making $85/per person when they do. Their claims were false and I entered into the contract under false pretenses. Furthermore, his statement to the other person was also a lie. What I found out is they are only providing you a listing or properties... Nothing more. A credit report or a fee may be required. This company is nationwide and their practices are completely misleading the public. They need to be stopped.
