In December (yes, just 3 1/2 months after Katrina) a friend of mine gave me a piano, all I needed to do was move it across town and across the river to my house on the West Bank. I called around and Starving Students gave me the best quote - $200.00. I arranged for the move.
They arrived at my friend's house; they tracked dirt all over her carpet; they loaded the piano into the truck and followed me across the river. Once there they handed me a phone where "the boss" told me they wouldn't bring it into my house unless I paid $200.00 MORE - for a total of $400.00. I told them they should have told me that before they loaded but he told me that if I didn't pay $400.00 they would return it to my friend's house. I told them she wouldn't take delivery of it and he threatened to leave it on her front lawn.
I paid them the $400.00 and ended up late on my rent as a result.
