Security Consultants, Inc. Raises some ethical concerns in how they conduct business with their employees. While working for Security Consultants, Inc. I discovered that the owner of the company consistently cheats his employees.
When you first get hired, you fill out a uniform deduction form. It is explained that this deduction is refundable upon your leaving the company when you turn in your uniform items. It is also explained that the deductions will stop once the value of your uniforms is reached. You will want to keep track of how much is being deducted every two weeks from your check. I know that I personally had dedcutions coming out well beyond the value of my uniforms. When I asked about why I still had deductions, the owner got upset and said "I don't know how much more you owe. I don't update it every week." After that, the deductions stopped.
When you ask for a pay increase, the owner states that there is not enough money in the company to give you a pay raise. This is because he stokes out a check to his wife for about $1600 every two weeks (thats post tax) and he consistently makes absurd purchases that are for his own personal hobbies and are in no way related to the business.
When you get your paycheck, you will want to calculate your hourly pay rate (he uses variable pay rates depending on assignment) and make sure you are getting paid what you were promised. You will also want to scrutinize your hours. Make sure you keep an copy of your schedule! On several occasions, he will short your paycheck by a few hours. If you don't catch it, he keeps the extra money. If you catch it, he wants you to prove it.
In today's economy, everyone needs a job. So, you may find yourself in a situation where you have to work for this company. My advise to you is to work there only as long as it takes to find a better job situation. Also, go over every aspect of your paycheck with a fine-toothed comb! Hours paid, Gross pay, Taxes, Deductions, EVERYTHING! If you don't, you will find yourself being cheated again and again.
