I had an alarm system installed in my mobile home in May by Monitronics/Safe Homes. My husband and I signed a two year contract.
We were very happy with our service and never had any problems with customer service, UNTIL we sold our mobile home in October.
I encouraged the couple we sold our MH to, to activate the alarm. They decided not to, so thats when my unexpected nightmare began.
I called Monitronics on November 14 asking them to discontinue my service, of course they offered me a moving special to install a new system in my new home. When I declined I was told I had to send a letter in writing to cancel my account, which I sent certified mail.
I then noticed that they took $37.00 out of my bank account in November and again in December. I called today Dec. 23rd and I was told that I signed a two year contract that automatically renews each year on May 10th.
While I knew it was automatically renewed I was not aware that I had to send a cancellation letter and had to then wait until 30 days after the anniversary date (May 10th) before it would cancel.
I spoke with a manager named Aaron who had no interest in helping me. He told me that $37.00 would continue to be taken from my account unitl May 10th of 2004.
My argument was that I no longer lived or owned the home where the alarm was installed. He said as a hardship to me he would settle the account for $100.00 paid by me and if I did not pay this amount within 30 days my account would be sent to collections and reported on my credit report.
This is bs! Monitronics is a complete rip off. They would rather take my money than make me happy. Whatever happened to good customer service!
I hope no one else is a victim of dishonesty, lack of respect and theft like I have been by Monitronics.
