I have had nothing but bad experiences with MCI, both with their long distance and their cell service. With the long distance I had a telemarketer pester me until I finally broke down after he promised me I could "try it free for a month". I told him my bills were low and he assured me MCI would be very competitive.
He also gave me a number to call him - if I had any problems, he'd take care of me. Well, of course I got a bill for 3 times my usual bill less than a month after I'd signed up. I called the number the guy had given me and it was a voice mail. Do you think anyone called me back? HA! I left numerous messages and nobody returned my calls. When I called their customer "service" (and I use the term VERY loosely) I got rude and inept reps who did not solve my problem. It eventually went to collection and I settled it with them for the amount I would have paid had I stayed with my former carrier.
The cell part is an ongoing nightmare. My husband and I got phones with "free" mobile-to-mobile minutes. What an unpleasant surprise it is to receive $400 bills from them almost every month. They charge us for checking our voice mail, which can only be done from our cell phones (isn't that nice of them?). If we happen to call each other out of our coverage area, which is not even local to us, we get charged 45 cents per minute. We can't use the phone in our home, we have to drive 30 minutes away before we get any service.
At this point it will be cheaper for us to cancel our plan and pay the fees for both phones than to stay with this sorry excuse for a company.
I think it is criminal that they are able to lock you into a plan when they don't reveal any problems that may occur. There should be at least a 1 month period to cancel, so you can ditch it if you find you can't use the piece of junk for some reason. I could go on forever, but I'll end off here. Down with MCI!!
