United States Van Lines - United States Van Lines / Di Sorbo Aldo And Di Sorbo Anthony
Bait and Switch pricing. Only brought one mover. Trying to overstate weight

This move has to be the most miserable experience of my career. I have moved with the military several times as had my wife, and also moved with several other companies with no issues whatsoever. This time we hired United States Van Lines to move (no packing we did that) a 700 sq ft apartment. The driver arrived in a tractor trailer and was totally inept at operating it claiming he could not get it in the apartment complex where there is a truck moving people every week. It was at this point we realized he arrived alone with no assistance. I paid over 1,000 for this move and there was only the driver. He started to make a lot of remarks about stairs which he did not have to negotiate (we live on the first floor). He then pulled out a measuring device to count the number of feet between the apartment and the truck which was less than 300 feet. He was already looking to try and upsell this bill by adding a surcharge to anything further than 350 feet. He then tried to get me to take 15$ an hour to move myself. I refused stating that this was his job and that for a 2 hour job I would only make 30$ off the price of the move and that is not acceptable since he is getting more. This seemed to annoy him and he started to walk around with seemingly nothing to do waiting on additional movers after I left to take my kids to the movies to get them out of the way. I figured that at this point he would get tired of waiting and would finally do the job we paid him to do. My wife remained to watch the doors so our stuff would not be stolen. The lazy driver then called and refused additional movers so he could collect more of the profit and to make things go so I could make it in time for my job my wife assisted in the move. I was very upset and did not want to pay the full bill since my wife did most of this person's work. I wish I knew she was going to do that because I would have sent her and stayed myself and watched this guy struggle by himself in the heat until he finally did the right thing and got movers sent. When he finally did get us packed he threatened to put our stuff in storage and we would not see it. Now here we are waiting for a delivery date that we may never get. The lady we contact with Quality Assurance seems like she has no interest in seeing that we get our items. We get no response from these people via email or phone and any contact we make to them is initiated from our end. I would like a bit of professionalism and not a scam but it appears that this is a shakedown. My guess is they are going to take the very small move we had them perform (no furniture other than 2 beds and a TV) and explode the bill. This is a blatent fraud and this is a company that I believe should be exposed and not used by anyone. It is unfortunate that it comes to going to watchdog sites like this to get a simple cross-state move performed. I hope anyone with similar issues can get some intervention from the law to take this unscrupulous business down.
