Hi there, much like any level-headed American citizen, we love to have our windows open and sit out on our porch when the weather permits, not have to shut every window, leave our house for a few hours or not be able to enjoy the property we own.
Thanks to Precious Grooming, a fly-by-night pet grooming salon up the street from us which is run out of the owners basement in their house, they own land that extends beyond Tremont Borough into Tremont Township, for which they place a burn barrel as close to their Borough ground as possible in order for them to burn all their plastics and refuse waste they generate.
Now, being that this end of Tremont is at the bottom of a mountain, the wind always blows the air pollution of melted plastic and the leftover chemicals it contains over through the neighboring houses which are in the borough of Tremont, and not the township.
One time, my father has tried to politely contact them and the husband of the house called the local authorities claiming harassment. He also erected a makeshift sign on plywood stating proudly that he is allowed to burn trash on Tremont Township property. The situation seems to dictate they enjoy their freedom to pollute the neighboring community.
It also states that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has no want to deal with such air pollution as they feel Townships and Boroughs can make their own decisions and legislation on burning policy; which we've looked into as well. DEP clearly states that waste must be of "normal occupancy" of up to two families and cannot include construction, stained wood or furniture, but there's nothing in their law about burning plastics from being a professional pet groomer.
We, as a family, have exhausted what we feel is all our outlets to get change made. We wouldn't mind if it were paper waste, but you can tell every time they burn there is a horrid smell of burnt chemicals and plastic waste being burnt in a poorly fumigated trash barrel on Tremont Township ground. I would be much more agreeable to Tremont Township if they banned burning for situations like these: burning trash generated in the neighboring borough where there is a burn ban and moving it to the Township where they happen to own ground where the Trash isn't generated. The place generates its own trash from the family and from the clientele they groom out of their basement, both of which are on Tremont Borough property.
We, as a family, and various friends and relatives that have visited during their glorious trash burning purges have oft been disappointed that local and state authority can or will not do anything to change the situation as it is. They're allowed to groom pets for people, but turn around and pollute the air that neighbors, their pets, and mother nature have to breathe in because they aren't inclined to pay to have their trash picked up like the rest of the Borough is.
So if you should find this as a current clientele or someone else neighboring who is saddened by this farce, don't stand alone, because this is a ripoff on the lungs and the other senses to be repressed inside your home on nice or hot days because they like to create air pollution.
