Verizon Wireless is a ruthless company that gouges customers and abuses employees.
I was employed by this abusive company for 1.5 years. Starts out great, but you are soonI pressured beyond reason to use high pressure sales tactics on everyone from the 90 y/o grandma who you must sell a blackberry to, and babies in a carriage who absolutely need a $30 vehicle charger for their baby phone, and everything in between. The harrassment starts from the top by mostly young, green managers who are brainwashed like Hitler's youth to evesdrop on everything you do. If you are unseccessfull in selling the elderly lady the latest ring tones, vehicle charger, text message package, leather case and blue tooth headset, all totalling around $80, plus an additional $30 or so each month tacked onto her bill, you get an earful and in some cases written counseling.
I can tell you horror stories of employees losing their minds and even one customer service manager hanging herself.
The pressure to make monthly goals is overwhelming and often unrealistic. YOY growth is dwindling as the cell phone user population has reached saturation. There are only so many new customers and only so long that you can get away with screwing your current customers until they realize there is less expensive and comparable cellular services out there. But, the pressure doesn't go away and the goals NEVER go down, only up each year.
The work environment is very Nazi Germany like, where employees are strongly encouraged to compete and stab each other in the back over the next customer, or an accessory sale.
There is an anonomous HR hotline, where the little Hitlers can call and file reports, (true or not) that are swiftly investigated.
One fine day I was returning from lunch when I happened upon the Store Office Manager (married) marking out with a customer service rep (married) near the rear door of the store. No, they were not married to each other! Fearing I would tell someone, the female quickly called the HR hotline and reported me for harassing her. I was immediately called by a District Manager and removed from the store within a 1/2 hour. An investigation insued and the Office Manager and the girl co-roborate on a harrassment story and I get fired 2 weeks later. The District Manager and HR department did't believe a word I said about seeing the two together, or the time I caught them smoking marijuana in the store parking lot after work.
I lost my job, @$60k income, benefits for my family and on top of that I went to a few job interview and told them the truth about why I was dismissed and they never called me back.
So I stopped offering up information on why I left the company, but Verizon screwed me anyway when a governent agency I was interviewing with called HR to check my employement and HR threw me under the bus!
I have completed a Masters Degree, owe much $ to student loans, etc. That I have to pay back now. I am haunted by this horrific company that not only abuses employees when they are there, but even after they are gone. I guess the $1.5MM in contract sales during 07 was not good enough.
If anyone thinks this is a good case for defamation please let me know.
The female left the company within a year, after being transferred when the office affair eventually came out. She later appologized to me in an email, that I forwarded to HR long after i was fired. "I did'nt mean for them to fire you, I only wanted to get myself transfered to another store."
