Today I noticed that my debit card was charged $119.95 by MWI Simple Escapes. Since I did not make a purchase yesterday, 11 SEP 03, from a company called MWI, I decided to call the number listed with the charge (1-877-825-8378). I was connected with a tele-operator for MWI. My conversation is summarized below:
I stated that I would like to know what the charge on my debit card was for. The operator stated that she needed my name and zip code. I provided my first name and last name as well as my zip code. She said that my name did not match MWIs records. She asked if I had moved in the last year. I said yes. She asked for the zip code of the old address. I gave it to her. She said that there was still no match. The only match for my name was listed with an Arizona zip code. I have never lived within five states of Arizona or traveled to Arizona. She said that this was the only information that she had. She could not help me any further. I asked to speak with her supervisor.
The supervisor got on the phone and asked me for my name and zip code. Again, no match. I stated that I wanted my money back and asked what the company was about. She stated that I was charged for a travel coupon package that I bought in the last week. I stated that I have never purchased a travel coupon package or have gone on any vacations or trips associated with the name of MWI Simple Escapes. I asked if she had a signature or recording of my purchase. She said that she would need my CREDIT CARD number to find the information. I said NO. She would not provide her last name. She gave the following address and first name and said the only phone number was the one I called (listed above):

I searched my bank records and found a previous debit on my account for MWI Simple Escapes $109.95. I contacted my bank and they stated that they would enter the complaint in a Federal investigation and that I would most likely get the last charge credited to my account. However, the first charge of $109.95 was over 90 days old and that the bank would not be able to help me on getting it refunded.
