Exceeded estimated costs and refused to pay for damaged furniture. Ripoff

I selected Eagle for my move because they were local and did not charge overtime for a Saturday move. They also had storage service. Their estimate was in the mid range of estimates I received. I maxed out insurance coverage on my furniture for full, protection with zero deductible.

The move out of the apartment went well enough, except that the time it took was twice the time they had estimated. They said they were being "cautious;" in reality, they were getting paid by the hour and were dragging their feet.

My furniture was in storage for 1 week. This was fine. The following Saturday, my furniture was delivered to the house. My antique secretary desk was damaged: a 4x4 inch chunk was taken out of one of the legs. The piece was insured for $4,000.

Eagle took the desk back with them so that their "specialist" could repair it. They estimated that it would be done and returned to me in 7-10 days.

2 weeks later, I called to check the status of the desk repair. I was told that it was being worked on and that I would have it within a day or two.

I called two days later and was told the same story. I was told the same story every time I got through to a live person over the next three weeks. More frequently, I left a messege that was not returned.

8 weeks after my initial move, my "repaired" desk was returned. The "repair" of the wood was barely acceptable but the stain used was a completely different color, making the repair obvious to a casual observer.

I called the company to complain and was told to complete insurance claim forms after getting three estimates for the additional repairs required. I completed and returned the forms one month ago. I still have not been reimbursed.

I called the MA Attorney General's Office to complain and was put in touch with the Consumer Action Committee. They attempted to nudge Eagle to pay the $150 needed to repair the desk that they damaged. Eagle offered to "settle" for $75 so that they would be paying for half of the cost to fix the damage they caused. They have not submitted the claim to their insurance company for the insurance that I paid $375 for prior to the move!

So I now have a damaged desk that was insured throughout the move that Eagle will not pay to repair properly.

They got more than enough revenue from this move by taking their dear old time: they estimated 10 hours, it tooks them 18. Molasses moves more quickly than these guys.

Do not use eagle van lines!!!
