On January 7, UPS mistakenly delivered a package I had shipped to a UPS store to the Williams-Sonoma distribution center at 4300 Concorde Road in Memphis, Tennessee. The package was clearly marked with the name of the friend I was mailing the package to, as well as the UPS box number and complete address of the UPS Store. All of the items shipped were books, so there was nothing in the package that might be confused with merchandise sold by Williams-Sonoma. However, this package was not returned to UPS at any time on January 7 nor the following business day, Friday, January 8.
When my friend went to pick up the package on Saturday, January 9, the delivery mistake was discovered, though it took a call to the UPS corporate customer service center to find out exactly where the package had been delivered. A lost package tracer was placed on the package by UPS, although I was told the tracing investigation would take anywhere between one and eight days. I spoke to two different customer service representatives and was repeately apologized to, even though they did not seem at all concerned that the package was dropped off at a location clear across the city from its intended destination and did not seem at all confident that the package would be able to be retrieved.
This is the second time in eight months I have had problems with UPS.in the first instance, my package was found, but it looked as if it had been run over with a truck. If this had not been an emergency situation, I would not have used UPS, but my back was up against the wall. Next time, I'll dig my way thru that wall and get myself to FedEx or the post office before I will ever mail anything thru UPS again.
