Billing Me for Returned Equipment

Equipment sent via UPS using comp-any provided sticker to address.
Received bill 5 months later for $323 for missing equipment.
Threw away tracking number after I recieved previous bill for $0.
UPS can't search without tracking number.
Several hours with AT&T reps. FInally got one who stated that she was turning over to back office to "investigate" for the first time.
In other words, AT&T has sent a threatening billing notice for equipment they are caliming they have not recieved though I had sent it. What am I suppose to do to prevent them from destroying my credit file?
