Smiths Food and Drug
Fired for no good reason!

I am responding to a previous report filed on the same company Smith Food and Drug in Evanston Wyoming. I was hired to work as a CSM (customer service manager) and I never gave less than my all. However, after a year and with no reason other than I was not the fastest checker I was unexpectadly dropped to a cashier and replaced by Perry. My hours were then Dramatically cut to the point where I was working less than part-time hours.

In the year that I had worked as a CSM part of my job was to handle the money and close out the tills at the end of the night.in that year NO till had ever been off by $100. But in the last three months since Perry has been CSMing there has been a total of $450 go missing from tills throughout the store. $100 of that was missing from my till. I have always counted my money back and though they claim I did not do a till audit the night the money went missing, I know for a fact that I did! With the exception of the one dollar bills I can tell you that I had $50 in 5's, no ten dollar bills, $240 in 20's, $250 in 50's and $1300 in 100 dollar bills! And how could I remember how much money was in my till if I had not done a till audit?

$100 dollars also went missing from another cashiers till, and $250 dollars went missing from the Pharmacy. And yet Management has turned a blind eye to the fact that the person closing out tills on these nights was Perry, simply stating that it "looked" like Perry was going to all the trouble of "finding" the money. And this is of course the money that they care about going missing, because of it's large amounts. But having been a CSM myself I can tell you that management rarely cares or goes looking for missing money in the 10 to 20 dollar range. So who is to say that the store isn't missing more than just the $450.

Anyways I was just fired for the missing $100 and for missing BOB (bottom of basket) when apparently, according to the report, there had never been anything on the bottom of the basket, I simply didn't ask the customer about it, thus warrenting my termination.

But to add more to the story of Larry Berg. He is not only unpersonable, he is LAZY! He does nothing all day unless corporate is walking the store than he tries to make himself look busy. However when corporate is not around he is ussually just walking around the store glaring at people or in his office surfing the internet. When lines get so big that we have to call him out to check, he has been known to watch the cameras until the rush is over then comes out and say's "Oh well, I guess you don't need me anymore." The sad thing is that Toni puts up with his crap, though she has commented on how it bugs her too.

Another person worth noting is Deserea the HR manager. Des is rude about helping employees with HR needs and refuses to help them when she is not assigned to work as HR that day. Her answer to most HR questions is to direct the employee to the HR website, and then treats the employees as if they were stupid when they cant figure out their benefits online. But when she finally grudgingly consents to help an employee figure things out, it becomes apparrent that she knows nothing about HR either.

Most Employees no longer go to Des for help, rather they go to the incredibly overworked and underpaid Sharli who is the person over the cash office, among many other things.

Sharli and Brad VanSyoc and the other checkers are the only bright side to the front end of the store. If Smiths didn't have the freshest produce and best prices in Evanston I would reccomend boycotting the store, however I wouldn't want to sned buisness to the equally as bad if not worse Jubilee and Walmart.
