I used UPS to ship a flatscreen television for my father who was dying from cancer from Johnstown, PA to Highlands Ranch, CO. Received it damaged. UPS inspected the damage and then returned the set Highlands Ranch, Colorado

I shipped a package on behalf of my father who was dying from cancer from the Johnstown UPS store in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. My father was moving in with me at my home in Colorado, but he wanted his flatscreen television.

When I sent the package, the UPS clerk asked if I wanted insurance and I agreed. It was an extra $15.00 and my total bill was $97.00. I also purchased $35.00 in packaging material from a local uhaul store in Johnstown. I bought a sturdy box, heavy bubble wrap and tape, several moving blankets, and several bags of styrofoam peanuts.

The flatscreen was wrapped in bubble wrap and taped and then wrapped in two blankets and taped. I then placed styrofoam peanuts on bottom and top and three bags of Styrofoam peanuts on all sides. When I received the package, it was damaged. There was a dent on the top. I called customer service, and they said to notify the store where it was shipped. I did that, and they said that they would have someone come to my house to investigate the damage. Then a few days later, with no warning, a UPS driver came to my home and wanted the original package with the contents.

I told the UPS driver that I had the television out, so that someone could inspect it. He then said he had to take the television to damage control in Englewood, Colorado. So, the UPS driver came into my house, he helped me place the bubble wrap back on and tape it, wrap it in the blankets, and tape it, place it in the sturdy box with all of the styrofoam peanuts.

One day later, I get the box returned to me from UPS damage control and there is extensive damage on the bottom of the set. They did not repackage the television like I had it. It was not in the bubble wrap, and half of the styrofoam peanuts were missing.

I notified the Johnstown store and told them what happened, and they say that they cannot be responsible because of the UPS damage control negiligence. A claim was filed and disputed and then the case was closed and said that UPS is not responsible because they did not package the item.

I asked them why do they ask the consumer to purchase insurance, and write a declared value on the invoice. What good is the insurance, if they claim not to be responsible for lost of damaged products. I then told them about the second damage and the negligence in repacking by the UPS damage Clerk, and they would not listen to me.

So, I now have a $900 worthless television set that I paid $97.00 plus my packing materials to send for my father. My father recently passed away, and never did get to watch tv from his own flatscreen.

It is a disgrace how UPS treats their customers. Nobody will help you in your situation, they all give you the run around, and tell you to call someone else. I could never speak to anyone in claims directly. The UPS Johnstown Store did nothing to help me.

I don't know how they can stay in business with their unethical ways. It is shameful that they treat the public this way. I will never use UPS again. My husband will not use UPS for any business transactions. My entire family will not use UPS for any type of shipping. We will use fedex!!! I should have used them in the first place, but I was in a rush to get everything taken care of for my dying father.

SHAME ON YOU UPS and Cudos to FEDEX

Sincerely,
Marcia
