I have had the warranty for our home in effect for a few years. I recently had my Air Conditioner checked as it was not cooling. This was done by a local contractor. He informed me that my compressor had bad valves and needed replace as well as the evaporator coil having a leak. I then called the Cross Country number and requested they look at the unit. When the service tech showed up he went straight to the condensing unit and hooked up the gauges. After 2 minutes he said there was nothing wrong. I asked him to watch the gauges for a few minutes. Sure enough the pressure was swinging from 50 - 70 psig. I am licensed in freon handling and have a good idea on how these things work. He then writes a bill to replace the compressor. I then reminded him about the leak. He then goes into the attic and indeed verifies that I have a leak. He re-writes an estimate which include over a thousand dollars worth of add ons such as new drain pan with level detector as well as access ports to be able to clean the coil. I faxed the bill to Cross Country and heard back after a few weeks. They would pay $1000.00 and the rest was mine. Keep in mind that just an evaporator coil replacement is over that. The person I talked to said that was it and there was no discussion. I contacted another company and had a new condensing unit and coil installed and sent in the proof. I did get a check for the agreed total that was mentioned. This was not what I had been led to believe what was covered by reading the fancy paperwork. I will take this up with my bank who sent me the information. Bottom line is that I will cancel right away and keep my losses to a minimum.
