It seems that Foley Implement Company is an "authorized" warranty provider for Honda lawn mowers but when they do the write up for the warranty work, they word it so that it looks like the consumer is not maintaining the product properly. I purchased my Honda mower 12 and it came with a 3-year warranty and it stopped running in 3 and was puffing black smoke and would not idle. The repair ticket shows that it was puffing "white smoke" and they claimed it was over-full on oil and they replaced the air filter and spark plug (the manual calls for a BPR6ES plug and they replaced it with a BPR4ES plug), and it states they adjusted the rpm's on the engine and charged me $65.92. After mowing my lawn for the 2nd time, the mower started doing the same thing so I replaced the spark plug with the correct one according to the manual.
On Jun 20 I took it back to them advising it was doing the same thing and the new description they had down was it was puffing "black smoke, will not idle" and they claim that the air filter was contaminated and allowed debris into the carb. They claim they removed & cleaned the carb, replaced fouled plug, changed the oil again (claiming it had fuel in the oil), adjusted throttle and choke (wich cannot be done by the consumer) and charged another $42.65. Neither time did they call to advise me that this was not a "warranty" item.
I contacted Honda Motor Company and they said that Foley Implement advised them that the mower must have been tipped over allowing the gas to get into the air filter & oil. Honda claims there is nothing they can do and that the problem would be between me and the warranty service provider. I advised Honda that Foley Implement must have been the one to tip the mower over when they supposedly fixed it in March because when I mow I don't tip the mower over and would have no reason to tip the mower when it was just serviced by them.
I believe that Foley Implement writes up their service orders with wording they know will not have to fall under warranty from Honda so Foley Implement can charge me, the consumer, for shoddy work Foley Implement performs and not have to battle with Honda to get reimbursed. Naturally, I the consumer has to pay thier repair bill in order to get the mower back.
I will probably end up going to G&J's Power Equipment here in Foley to buy a Snapper mower from a reputable dealer that stands behind their work and doesn't try to rip-off the everyday consumer like Foley Implement does.
