I opened a line of credit with wal-mart only to purchase a TV that was a little over $100. I paid it off in the next 2 months and requested the credit card be cancelled. I shredded the card and thought it was a done deal. About 6 months later I received a bill for $30 something dollars. I immediately called customer service only to find that the account had not been closed, they had mailed out a new card. During this call I requested it be closed for the second time and filed a fraud report. A week or so later I received a new card in the mail, realizing they did it again I called for the third time and asked for a manager who assured me he would close the account.
I received the papers I needed to fill out for the dispute, which I did and mailed back. A short while later another bill came in the mail - this time with interest. I called customer service again. They said the account was closed and in dispute and will reverse the interest. Never happened.
It went on like this for about 8 or 9 more months, every month Im calling customer service and filling out more paper work that never seems to get processed. I did receive a copy of the receipt - it was very obvious that someone stole the card that was never supposed to be mailed out and forged my signature. They bought silly stuff like coffee etc.
Finally almost a year into it I got a hold of a manager yet again and explained my situation yet again and he said he will wipe out the debt and close the account. What a headache over $30.
