Our daughter was in Kenya for 3 months and the phone bills were $1.50/min. So my wife called Verizon and they told her about their international plan. For $14.99, we would get 300 min. A month of talking with our daughter in Kenya. Our first bill was $162 in long distance fees.
We cancelled the international plan because it was obviously not working and complained (with great difficulty, I might add) and were told the bill would be reviewed. Our next bill was $527 which included a charge of $5/min. For a 60 min. Call to Korea. Our old carrier charged us $0.15/min.
We again called Verizon and I was told that the bill would stand. Verizon is the only phone service of any type in our area and I need the phone line because of my occupation.
Verizon uses deceptive business practices and its customer service is horrible.
If you ever have a problem with Verizon, Good Luck
