Complaint / Review
Long Distance Access Inc
Switched us to LDA by Misrepresenting

Phone rep switched us to LDA under false pretenses - said Verizon would no longer offer long distance and had switched us to LDA.in Feb my wife was contacted by the phone representative for Long Distance Access Inc (LDA). Rep said that our current long distance carrier (Verizon) as well as AT&T would no longer offer long distance services in our area and was switching us over to LDA.

When my wife said that Verizon had not contacted us about any change the rep (falsely) stated that Verizon had sent out a letter which many customers had not received. Accordingly, my wife went through the 3rd party verification and switched us over to LDA. The "not an affiliate" question did not raise a red flag as we were told Verizon was ceasing service. We later received a rude call from an LDA rep, this time claiming to be from Verizon and telling us we owed $300 in international calling charges and that we should pay (in spite of not yet having received the Verizon bill that would reflect these charges under LDA). We discovered that under LDA's calling plan, international calls were significantly more expensive than under the plan that we had with Verizon ($30 for unlimited international calling). This amount shows up on our Verizon bill, which continued to be our local carrier and is now again our long distance and international carrier. When we requested a credit for the difference, LDA said they would process it but it never came through. When I finally called on 4/25 I was told that the "Manager" had refused the refund because the calls were indeed international calls. When I complained about the deceptive practices, I was told that my wife "should have listened more carefully to the third party verification". I requested to talk to the manager but was told that he/she was not available and would call me back - but there was no commitment on the call time.
