I rented two storage units from Public Storage. I went to remove the boxes stored and had many missing boxes from one of the storage units. I had purchased insurance for both of the units from Public Storage. One month I was late with my payment and Public Storage cut the locks on both units. I paid my bill and public storage informed me they put their own locks on both units. The manager was there when both units were opened and I said there were boxes missing. The Manager said the units were inspected when the locks where cut and said the contents were the same. The Manger was there when the locks where changed. The Manager opened both units with his keys since the locks were installed by public storage after they cut my locks.
I put in a claim with the insurance company which was denied since there was no evidence of forced entry. This is a joke since it is obvious that a lock cutter is only needed to get into the storage units. The insurance company is a rip off since there defination of a break in requires the storage unit show forced entry thus having no responsibility for any loss which is why insurance is purchased. So this is encouragement for anyone to steel for they know they will get away with it since Public Storage does not care and the insurance company is a fraud and will not pay out for losses.
In addition, Public storage has no security in the storage units buildings. There are no cameras and anyone can get in the buildings and cut locks and steel. They have a gate with a video camera which the manager told me does not get the license plates of cars and can't see the individuals who are in the car. Anyone with a code can open the gate and get in and has access to all of the storage buildings and can just go to any unit and cut the locks and steel. There is a 6 foot brick wall around the storage building which anyone can get over and get into any building and access any storage unit. There is no one watching and checking to see that individuals go to their own unit or watching for individuals who should not be in the storage units. There are no securty guards. Once you are in the storage building you can go any where with no one watching. Public storage has no right to be in business or to conduct business in this way without any security or responsibility because it is expected that the items stored will be safe. Public storage did not inform me of the risks renting storage from them. Again, this is rip off and should be stopped.
Public storage has no real security system, but takes your money for storage and inssurance and ends up having no responsibility for stolen items. I also purchased the locks for my units from public storage and they sell locks which can be cut with a cutter. This is another act with fosters personal loss since the locks can be cut to open units up. There is nothing to stop anyone who wants to steel from steeling from units at public storage. Also, they say they have climate control when they do not.
I have lost very valuable items and items which have been in my family for many, many years. Now I have to suffer the denial from the insurance company, antoher rip off, in addition to my losses.
