Renting defective, dangerous equipment

Following is an invoice related to an Eagle 47 lift that was rented on 7/1. This machine did not perform as advertised despite setting up and operating the machine as instructed by Randy, a representative of your company.
As there were no operating instructions supplied with the machine nor printed on the machine for reference, we only had the information supplied by your employees to use as reference.
The instructions given were to spread all four support legs to the maximum angle until the safety switches were depressed, this was done correctly.
Surprisingly, two of the sensors were rigged with wires to bypass the safety mechanism altogether whether or not the legs were spread correctly. This is wholly unacceptable.
Following this, we were instructed to lower all the feet until the transport wheels were lifted off the ground, this was done correctly. The fuel flow switch was set to on as instructed and the keyswitch was in the on position as instructed. The machine failed to start repeatedly until the battery was near dead and we were forced to return the equipment. After bringing the lift back to your location and waiting for approximately 30 minutes, your staff was able to get the machine working. I was told that I could not simply return the machine without paying the rental charge. Returning the rig to the jobsite at this point was unacceptable as it was already too late in the day to perform the tasks that were to be accomplished.

In hindsight, I should have known to walk away from your business when, as your employee was trying to prepare the first Eagle 47 lift, the handle broke off of the lift crank. He ended up having to give me a different machine.

Im having a difficult time understanding the concept of paying for work not completed, as expected by your contract. As such, I feel it is only fair that I should be compensated for the ineptitude of your employees in providing reasonable instruction in operating your equipment and the renting by your company of equipment that is either overtly difficult to operate or simply in poor condition.
I have included a copy of my rental contract from Sunbelt rentals who provided me with a top-notch machine that worked as advertised. They also included an owners manual and the assurance that if the machine did not work, I would not be held responsible.
I am providing this as evidence that I was not able to complete the work for which your machine was rented.

It should also be noted that youre staff consists of some of the most unprofessional, crude individuals I have ever dealt with, you can be sure I will be passing this information along to all my builder associates. I wont go into details, but it should be noted that I was followed out to my vehicle by your manager and another employee who proceeded to curse me in front of my 3-1/2 yr old son.
