I own a Whirlpool washing machine that was included in the purchase of my new home. It malfunctioned recently so I called the Whirlpool Customer Servive hotline and they set up an appointment with A & E Factory Service to come out.
They informed me it would be $65.00 for the diagnosis and then repair charges would apply if neccesary. Two tech came out and discovered that the machine was simply overloaded (nothing was wrong with it).
They were here for no more than half an hour. They charged me $160 for "labor". No actual repairs were done... Just the diagnosis. I payed by check.
I am currently in the process of seeking retribution. The lesson I learned that I would like to share: I should have payed by credit card because it is easier to put a freeze on the charge that issuing a stop payment for a check ($30 charge at Bank of Ameri... And no guarantees of stopping it before it is cashed!).
